Odisha to witness temperature rise from March 1, IMD issues weather alert

Bhubaneswar, Feb 24: The temperature across Odisha is expected to rise sharply from March 1, with interior regions likely to experience temperatures soaring to 37-38°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar. The capital city is also forecasted to touch 37°C on the same day.
On Sunday, the highest temperature was recorded at 36°C in Paralakhemundi, followed by 35.6°C in Malkangiri. Other districts, including Balangir, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda, recorded 34-35°C, while Bhubaneswar stood at 33.3°C.
Meanwhile, light rainfall was reported in parts of Bhadrak, Chandbali, and Balasore on Sunday, providing temporary relief from the heat. However, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms have been forecasted for eight districts today, namely Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
The IMD has advised residents in these districts to take precautionary measures and stay indoors during extreme weather conditions.
The temperature in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Sambalpur had dropped significantly over the past 24 hours, but a gradual increase is expected in the coming days, marking the onset of warmer weather conditions.
