Odisha Assembly disrupted amid protests over Mission Shakti

Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: The Odisha Assembly's budget session on Wednesday witnessed chaotic scenes as opposition parties, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress, staged protests over the ruling BJP government’s alleged plan to restructure Mission Shakti executive committees.
As soon as the session began, BJD legislators stormed the well of the House, raising slogans against the BJP government’s failure to address the concerns of Mission Shakti members. The Speaker, Surama Padhy, made repeated requests for order, but the disruptions persisted, leading her to adjourn the House until 4 PM.
BJD MLAs later staged a walkout and dharna near the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Assembly premises. BJD leader Arun Sahu criticized the government, stating, "Mission Shakti women are not affiliated with any political party; they serve the people. The government should address their issues instead of restructuring the executive committees."
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, along with his party colleagues, staged a protest near the Speaker’s podium, demanding justice for women in Odisha and urging the government to resolve their grievances.
