Teenager sets himself ablaze in Cuttack, dies despite rescue efforts

Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: In a tragic and shocking incident, a 19-year-old student allegedly set himself on fire at his rented house in Mathasahi Gopaljew Lane under Purighat police limits on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Ankan Dutta, a resident of West Bengal, who was living in Cuttack with his father while pursuing his Plus II studies at Christ College.
According to reports, Ankan poured diesel on himself and set himself ablaze inside his room. Neighbors, noticing the fire, immediately alerted the fire brigade, who rushed to the scene and managed to douse the flames. However, Ankan had already succumbed to his injuries by the time he was rescued.
Authorities are yet to determine the exact reason behind the student's extreme step. Preliminary investigations revealed that Ankan had locked all doors and windows before setting himself on fire, indicating a premeditated act.
The half-burnt body was later handed over to Purighat police, who have launched a detailed probe to uncover the circumstances leading to this heartbreaking incident.
