Over 36,000 women and children reported missing in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: A staggering 36,420 women and 8,403 children have gone missing in Odisha from 2020 to 2024, as disclosed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during a recent session of the State Assembly. This alarming statistic raises significant concerns about safety and security in the state.
In response to a question posed by MLA Chakramani Kanhar, CM Majhi provided a detailed account of the situation, revealing that 421 women and girls have become victims of human trafficking, often facilitated by illegal middlemen operating across state borders. In light of this, law enforcement agencies have successfully apprehended 453 individuals involved in these trafficking networks.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the ongoing efforts of the state government to combat this crisis, noting that 1,417 women and 1,857 children have been successfully rescued due to these initiatives. Furthermore, in a commendable effort against child labor, 748 children were rescued within the same four-year timeframe. These efforts underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing the safety and well-being of vulnerable populations in Odisha.
