Burglar arrested in ₹50 lakh theft case at Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik’s residence

Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: After a 19-day-long hunt, Commissionerate Police on Thursday apprehended a notorious burglar responsible for looting valuables worth over ₹50 lakh from the residence of senior Congress leader and former Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik.
The accused, identified as 35-year-old Satish Reddy, was nabbed from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The burglary took place in the early hours of January 26 at Patnaik’s N/29 residence in IRC Village.
The miscreant broke into the second floor while Patnaik and his wife were asleep on the ground floor, making away with gold ornaments and cash. Three days later, on January 29, another attempted burglary was reported at a different residence of the Congress leader in the same area.
Police tracked Reddy’s movements through CCTV footage and discovered that he had also targeted another affluent residence before striking Patnaik’s house. The stolen items have been recovered, and further investigations are underway to uncover possible accomplices and past criminal records.
