CM Majhi launches ‘Bikashita Gaon, Bikashita Odisha’ to boost rural development

Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi officially launched the ‘Bikashita Gaon, Bikashita Odisha’ scheme at a program in Khurda on Wednesday. The event was attended by Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Ravi Narayan Nayak, local MLA Prashant Jagdev, Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, and District Collector Chanchal Rana.
The Odisha government has issued guidelines for the implementation of this transformative scheme, which aims to enhance the rural economy through robust infrastructure development. The initiative focuses on bridging critical gaps to achieve accelerated and inclusive growth in rural Odisha by undertaking various sustainable development projects. This strategy will significantly contribute to infrastructure improvement, aligning with the broader objectives of a Bikashita Odisha.
District Collectors and BDOs have been tasked with preparing and submitting a five-year plan for each village by February 15. The government has allocated Rs 1,000 crore for the 2024-25 budget under this scheme, with funds distributed to panchayats based on the new guidelines. Special emphasis will be placed on backward and tribal areas, with 40% of the total funds (Rs 400 crore) designated for blocks under the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA).
Among the 314 blocks in Odisha, 121 blocks fall under the ITDA, and these regions will receive prioritized development efforts. The remaining Rs 600 crore will be allocated to the other 193 blocks, specifically aimed at enhancing road infrastructure in every village.
