Girl dies after consuming rice laced with rat poison in Rourkela

Bhubaneswar, Jan 23: A 12-year-old girl tragically died on Tuesday after unknowingly consuming rice laced with rat poison in Riung village, located under the Biramitrapur police limits in Rourkela. The deceased, identified as Kiran Riun, was a Class V student.
According to reports, Kiran returned home from school and ate rice that had been intentionally mixed with rat poison, meant to eliminate rodents. Shortly after consuming the poisoned rice, Kiran fell critically ill and was rushed to Rourkela Government Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Following the tragic incident, Kiran's father filed a complaint, prompting the Kuaramunda police to register a case of unnatural death. The body was sent for post-mortem, and after completing the formalities, it was returned to the family for last rites.
This heartbreaking loss is compounded by a previous tragedy; Kiran's older sibling had died just months ago after being bitten by a poisonous snake while sleeping at home. The family is now grappling with two devastating losses.
