Newborn dies in Kandhamal Hospital, family alleges medical negligence

Bhubaneswar, Jan 23: A newborn baby tragically died recently at the District Headquarters Hospital in Kandhamal district, allegedly due to negligence by hospital staff. The grieving family of the deceased newborn filed a written complaint with the Phulbani Town Police, accusing doctors and nurses of irresponsibility and demanding strict action against those responsible.
According to the complaint, Anil Behera’s wife was admitted to the hospital on Sunday after experiencing labor pains but was left unattended until Monday. The on-duty doctor initially suggested transferring her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital but later advised Anil to procure some medicines. While the family was moving her to the maternity ward, the baby was born prematurely and fell to the ground, resulting in its death.
The family accused the hospital staff of gross negligence and irresponsibility, which they believe caused the tragic incident. In response, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr. Santosh Kumar Padhi has ordered an investigation into the matter and assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
