Puri Collector warns against using contaminated Daya River amid diarrhea outbreak
Bhubaneswar, Jan 21: The Puri Collector has issued a warning to residents to refrain from using the Daya River, which has become highly contaminated and is linked to a recent outbreak of diarrhea in Kanasa and nearby villages.
Following a thorough examination by a medical team, it has been determined that the water in the Daya River is unfit for human consumption. The Collector, Siddharth Shankar Swain, emphasized that the situation will be closely monitored and announced plans to increase tanker services to provide potable drinking water to affected areas.
Additional Divisional Medical Officer (ADMO) and medical specialists have been dispatched to investigate the contamination levels in the river. Health department officials have advised against using the polluted water.
The Daya River flows prominently through Nuagaon village in Gadisagoda Gram Panchayat and Jagulaipadar village in Gopinathpur GP. Health workers, Asha workers, and Anganwadi workers are conducting door-to-door outreach to warn residents.
Tragically, four people have died from diarrhea linked to the contaminated water, prompting the cancellation of a marriage reception in the village due to the spread of this waterborne disease.
