Odisha to launch statewide housing survey under PMAY-Rural from January 24
Bhubaneswar, Jan 20: The Odisha government is set to launch a comprehensive housing survey on January 24 under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)-Rural. Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik announced on Monday that beneficiaries can apply both online and offline, with offline applications available at local Panchayat offices.
The central government has increased the number of houses under PMAY-Rural from two crore to three crore, raising Odisha’s hopes for a larger share of the allocation. Additionally, the criteria for applying have been relaxed to accommodate a broader range of beneficiaries.
The survey will now include individuals separated from their families, such as sons living apart from parents or women residing independently from their husbands. Those who previously applied but did not receive benefits can also reapply.
The state government expects the survey to last six to eight weeks, ensuring extensive coverage and participation. This initiative aims to ensure housing for the rural population and address past gaps in beneficiary identification.
