DRI, Customs seize drugs worth ₹4 crore at Bhubaneswar Airport
Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: In a major anti-smuggling operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Customs Department arrested a Kerala native and seized drugs worth ₹4 crore at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night.
Reports revealed that the accused was transporting marijuana, processed in Germany, cleverly concealed in biscuit packets. He had traveled from Bangkok to Bhubaneswar when officials, acting on a tip-off, intercepted him. Upon searching his luggage, officials discovered contraband marijuana valued at ₹4 crore.
The man has been detained for interrogation to uncover further links and identify others involved in the smuggling network. Authorities suspect a larger racket and are pursuing leads.
In a related incident, Customs officials recently apprehended two women from Kolkata attempting to smuggle 10 kg of marijuana from Malaysia to Bhubaneswar.
These operations underline the increasing vigilance of enforcement agencies in curbing drug trafficking through airports and their commitment to dismantling smuggling networks.
