Balasore imposes curfew for eviction drive amid protests

Bhubaneswar, Jan 11: The Balasore district administration has enforced a curfew to facilitate an eviction drive aimed at expanding a railway line. The curfew will remain effective from 4 am to 10 pm today and tomorrow to maintain law and order.
The drive was conducted in the Arada Bazar area, with curfew restrictions extending to Haripur, Darji Pokhari, Kasimila, Phuladi, Nuabazar railway gate, Gopalpur, and Pariba Bazaar. Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has also been invoked, prohibiting gatherings of more than four individuals.
Heavy police deployment and a temporary police camp have been established to prevent unrest. Despite these measures, clashes erupted between locals and police as residents protested the eviction. The administration resorted to imposing the curfew to control the escalating situation.
The eviction is a part of efforts to ensure the timely expansion of the railway line, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.
