Odisha braces for intense winter chill as temperatures dip sharply
Bhubaneswar, Jan 2: Odisha is set to experience a harsher winter this year, with nighttime temperatures dropping rapidly across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts further declines in minimum temperatures over the next 24 hours.
On Wednesday night, six locations recorded temperatures below 10°C. These included Rourkela (7°C), Jharsuguda (8°C), and Daringibadi, Phulbani, Keonjhar (9.5°C), while Sundargarh reported 9.7°C.
IMD forecasts a further dip of 2°C to 3°C on Thursday, with minimum temperatures likely to reach 10°C in Rourkela and Keonjhar, 9°C in Phulbani and Sundargarh, and 11°C in Baripada and Angul. Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are expected to record minimum temperatures of 14°C and 15°C or lower, respectively.
Shallow to dense fog is expected in parts of the state over the next two days. A yellow warning has been issued for dense fog in Kandhamal and Angul, while light to moderate fog may affect Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, and other districts.
Light rainfall is also forecast for coastal Odisha and districts such as Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, and Sambalpur. Temperatures are expected to rise again from January 3.
