Bhubaneswar, Dec 31: A massive fire broke out on the top floor of Berhampur University’s Ladies Hostel on Tuesday, causing significant damage. The fire, which is suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit, engulfed the floor, reducing most furniture and belongings to ashes.

Fortunately, the incident occurred during the university's winter vacation, when most students had returned to their homes. This minimized the potential for injuries or loss of life. However, many students’ belongings, including essential items and furniture left behind, were completely destroyed in the blaze.

Upon receiving the alert, Fire Services personnel promptly arrived at the scene and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

Although no injuries were reported, the incident has raised concerns over safety measures in the hostel. Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation to confirm the cause and take preventive steps to avoid such incidents in the future.
