Newlywed bride found dead in Ganjam, family alleges dowry harassment

Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: A newlywed bride was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws' house in S. Gopalpur village under Patapura police station in Ganjam district on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Nisha Pradhan, wife of Bikram Baral.
According to sources, Bikram had eloped with Nisha, a resident of Bhusanda village under Digapahandi police station, 11 months ago. They later returned and got married according to community customs. However, Nisha reportedly faced harassment from her in-laws and had been living with her parents out of frustration. During Diwali, Bikram convinced her to return to his home.
Tragically, Nisha was found dead soon after. Her family alleged that she was murdered for dowry, with her mother, Kumari Pradhan, filing a police complaint accusing the in-laws of poisoning her. Meanwhile, Nisha’s mother-in-law denied the allegations, stating a quarrel occurred but was unsure how Nisha died.
Police have launched an investigation based on the complaint to uncover the truth behind the incident.
