Family alleges ragging and negligence in Plus II student’s tragic death at hostel

Bhubaneswar, Dec 24: The family of Tofali Nayak, a Plus II student whose body was found hanging in her hostel on December 19, has accused the authorities of failing to prevent ragging and abuse, which they believe led to her death.
Tofali’s father, Ramachandra Majhi, claimed his daughter faced severe mistreatment at the Indravati Students Hostel of Maa Manikeshwari University in Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi district, the day before her death.
The student, a resident of Birokot village in Rampur block, was also reportedly threatened by a boy near the hostel’s main gate. CCTV footage allegedly captured the incident.
Bhawanipatna MLA Sagar Charan Das expressed serious concerns, stating, “The CCTV footage and photographs reveal the girl was ragged for nearly half an hour, facing physical and mental abuse. An external individual also threatened her. This reflects gross negligence by the college management. Their vague responses are unacceptable. We will ensure student safety and accountability.”
The case has sparked outrage, with calls for a thorough investigation into the incident.
