Second day of ED searches at home of Khirod Mallik, linked to alleged loan misuse
Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials intensified their raid for the second consecutive day at the residence of late Khirod Mallik, brother of former Odisha minister and Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik, in Banipally, Sambalpur. The raid, which began on Wednesday, also targeted three other locations linked to Mallik, including offices of BISWA, an NGO founded by him, in Odisha and Delhi.
The searches continued late into Wednesday night and resumed on Thursday morning. While details of any critical documents seized remain unclear, sources suggest the investigation centers around allegations of financial irregularities.
Khirod Mallik reportedly took loans amounting to ₹231 crore from various public and private sector banks. Allegedly, the funds were misused for purposes including election financing.
BISWA, the NGO associated with Mallik, has been defunct for several years, raising questions about the loans’ repayment. The ED’s ongoing investigation aims to uncover the extent of financial mismanagement and any potential misuse of funds.
