ED raids properties linked to BJD MLA Pramila Mallik's late brother in financial fraud probe

Bhubaneswar, Dec 18: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted coordinated raids on properties linked to Khirod Mallik, the deceased brother of Opposition Chief Whip and former Odisha minister Pramila Mallik, on Wednesday morning. The raids took place in New Delhi and three locations in Sambalpur, driven by allegations of financial fraud amounting to Rs 231 crore.
Khirod Mallik, founder of the NGO Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA), is accused of securing loans from various national and private banks and misusing the funds to finance election campaigns.
The ED is currently executing searches at Khirod Mallik’s residential building, the BISWA office, and another property owned by him in Sambalpur. In New Delhi, the focus is on the BISWA headquarters.
Previously, the ED registered a case against BISWA for allegedly misusing substantial loan amounts from banks and failing to repay them. Under the BJD government, BISWA was awarded a tender to supply pulses for mid-day meals in government schools and received several other government contracts during Pramila Malik's tenure.
