Bhubaneswar, Dec 12: In a tragic incident, a 7-month pregnant woman was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Jardapali village under Tikayatpali police limits in Bonai, Sundergarh district, on Wednesday night. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Samyamayi Behera, was the wife of Devan Behera.

Reports suggest that the woman was at home when two youths arrived and knocked on her door. Upon opening it, they snatched her gold chain and mangalsutra. When Samyamayi resisted and raised an alarm, the miscreants shot her at close range before fleeing the scene on a bike.

Hearing the gunshot, neighbors rushed to her aid and immediately took her to Bonai Hospital in critical condition. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community. Tikayatpali police were informed and have since launched a detailed investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the assailants. Security has been heightened in the area to prevent further incidents.
