New artist to play King Kansa in 2025 Dhanu Yatra

Bhubaneswar, Nov 23: The iconic role of King Kansa in Bargarh’s world-renowned Dhanu Yatra will be portrayed by a new artist in the upcoming event, scheduled from January 3 to 13, 2025.
The decision was made during a preparatory meeting of the Dhanu Yatra Committee held at the District Collector’s office on Friday. This change comes in the wake of the suspension of Hrusikesh Bhoi, who had played the central character of King Kansa for several years.
Bhoi, a hearse driver under Odisha’s 'Mahaprayan' scheme, was suspended by the Health Department following allegations of bribery. Sources revealed that he demanded ₹3,000 from a family to transport a body from the District Headquarters Hospital in Bargarh to Bahala village in Gaisilat block.
Although the family paid the amount, they later filed a complaint, prompting an investigation that led to Bhoi’s suspension. Despite initially being selected to reprise his role in the 2025 Dhanu Yatra, the committee decided to replace him with another artist to uphold the integrity of the event.
The Dhanu Yatra is a theatrical spectacle depicting the mythological story of Lord Krishna and King Kansa, drawing visitors from across the globe.
