Six-month-old found dead in Cuttack, villagers suspect foul play

Bhubaneswar, Nov 19: A six-month-old infant was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Mundasahi village, located under the Choudwar police limits in Cuttack district. The incident has raised suspicions, with villagers accusing the infant’s parents of killing the child while in an inebriated state and subsequently burying the body at a nearby crematorium.
According to local residents, the infant appeared healthy the previous night, but the parents claimed the child had died overnight. "We suspect they killed the child while drunk," said villagers, who then rushed to the police station to demand an investigation into the matter.
However, the parents have denied the allegations, asserting that the child died from cold and cough. They stated that they had administered the medicine prescribed by doctors at a government hospital, but the child succumbed to the illness during the night.
Following a formal complaint by the villagers, the police have launched an investigation. The infant’s body will be exhumed in the presence of a magistrate for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
