Odisha Minister vows strict action against cattle smuggling and cow slaughter
Bhubaneswar, Nov 9: Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister, Gokula Nanda Mallik, announced on Saturday that strict measures will be taken against cattle smugglers and those involved in cow slaughter. The statement was made during Gopashtami, a Hindu festival celebrating Lord Krishna and his connection with cows.
Marking the occasion, Minister Mallik revealed that two Punganur cattle from Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor were brought to his home to honor the festival. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to cow protection and combating illegal activities related to cattle.
“I pray to Gomata for blessings upon us all. May Odisha and our nation remain safe, and may the cow population flourish. We will take firm action against those responsible for cow slaughter,” said Mallik.
He also highlighted Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s emphasis on the Kamdhenu Yojana, a state initiative aimed at improving cattle breeding and welfare. Speaking in Puri, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s focus on ensuring cattle safety and preventing road accidents involving cows.
Mallik added that a committee led by the Deputy Chief Minister has been formed, comprising five ministers and a secretary, to implement measures for cow safety and welfare across the state.
