Similipal Tiger Reserve reopens to tourists after Cyclone Dana closure

Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: The Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district has reopened its gates to tourists today after being temporarily closed for six days due to Cyclone Dana. The reserve was shut down from October 23 to 25 and again from October 26 to 28 due to heavy rainfall that followed the cyclone. During this period, all prior bookings for cottage stays were cancelled, and visitors were prohibited from entering the reserve.
The Director’s Office of the Similipal Tiger Project announced the reopening after thoroughly assessing the conditions post-storm. The reserve had previously reopened ahead of the Durga Puja festival, attracting a significant influx of tourists eager to enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife of the area.
Similipal is renowned for its diverse ecosystem, home to Bengal tigers, elephants, leopards, and over 200 bird species. With its rich biodiversity, it remains an ideal destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers looking to spend a memorable vacation in Odisha's natural splendor.
