Odisha govt to compensate cyclone-affected farmers via DBT

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: The state government has announced compensation for farmers whose crops were damaged by Cyclone Dana, in line with the updated guidelines from the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).
Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture and Farmers' Empowerment Minister KV Singh Deo held a review meeting today to evaluate the crop losses, confirming that eligible farmers will receive compensation directly into their bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
"We have directed district-level officials to submit assessment reports as per the new SRC guidelines, and compensation will be disbursed to affected farmers through DBT," Singh Deo stated.
He also urged residents not to provide false information to claim benefits unjustly, warning that strict action will be taken against anyone found giving misleading information.
According to reports, 88,594 hectares of land across seven blocks in Bhadrak district have been flooded, with 24,827 hectares of farmland estimated to be impacted. The worst-hit areas include Kendrapara, Jajpur, Balasore, and Bhadrak. Kendrapara alone reported damage to 28,426 hectares, particularly in Rajkanika, Mahakalpara, and Aul.
