India suffers first home test series defeat since 2012 as New Zealand claims 2-0 Lead

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: India's remarkable 12-year unbeaten streak in home Test series came to a surprising end on Saturday as New Zealand secured a historic 2-0 lead with a 113-run victory at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium. This defeat marks India's first home Test series loss since the Alastair Cook-led England team triumphed 2-1 back in 2012.
During this impressive 12-year period, India played 18 Test series, competing in 52 matches, winning 42, losing just four, and drawing six. However, the series against New Zealand turned out to be a challenging one for the home side.
In the series opener in Bengaluru, India struggled significantly, dismissed for a mere 46 in overcast conditions during their first innings. New Zealand capitalized on this early advantage, with Rachin Ravindra scoring a solid century and Tim Southee contributing crucial runs. Despite a valiant effort from Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant, who scored 99 in a counter-attack, India fell short of the modest 107-run target.
