Odisha prepares for cyclone Dana: Over 5,000 relief centers established

Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: As Odisha prepares for Cyclone Dana, expected to reach the Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Thursday night and early Friday morning, Minister for Disaster Management Suresh Pujari announced that over 5,000 relief centers have been established in vulnerable districts. The government aims to evacuate around 1 million people from various areas of the state to ensure their safety.
In a media briefing on Wednesday, Pujari emphasized that the final review meeting had been conducted to assess preparedness at the grassroots level. "We have set up more than 5,000 relief centers equipped with modern facilities, providing essential services such as drinking water, food, milk for children, and medicine for those in need. We are preparing for the evacuation of approximately 10 lakh people," he stated.
The minister reassured the public that the telecom department has guaranteed network stability during the cyclone, while Tata Power has committed to ensuring continuous electricity supply. Backup power arrangements are in place in case of any disruptions.
