IMD forecasts cyclone formation; Odisha ramps up disaster management

Bhubaneswar, Oct 21: Odisha is bracing for a potential cyclone as a low-pressure area has developed over the east-central Bay of Bengal and the nearby North Andaman Sea. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that this system is likely to intensify into a depression by the morning of October 22 and may strengthen into a cyclonic storm, potentially named 'Dana,' by October 23.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has assured that the state is fully prepared to handle the situation. “Odisha has faced several natural calamities like cyclones and floods in the past, and the government is well-prepared to respond,” he said.
The minister emphasized ongoing efforts, noting, “We are in constant communication with district officials and the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) to keep everyone informed of the cyclone’s potential impact.”
A meeting with key departments, including Health, Agriculture, and emergency services, is scheduled for 6 p.m. today to discuss strategies for supporting the people. Minister Pujari reassured residents, saying, “There’s no need to panic. The administration will work around the clock to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.”
