Monkey menace sparks panic in Khuntuni, seven villagers hospitalized
Bhubaneswar, Oct 15: A rogue monkey caused panic in Ghandikhal village under the Khuntuni forest area in Athagarh, injuring seven people. The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
According to sources, the aggressive monkey went on a biting spree, terrorizing villagers and forcing them to stay indoors. Fear gripped the community as the monkey continued its rampage, leaving residents afraid to venture out even for essential tasks.
Desperate for a solution, villagers sought help from the Forest Department. In response, the department deployed a special rescue team from Nandankanan Zoo to capture the animal.
“The team successfully tranquilized and captured the rogue monkey,” said Khuntuni Ranger Nilamadhab Sahu. The captured monkey will undergo a thorough health check before being released into the wild, ensuring it poses no further threat to human settlements.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges with human-animal conflicts in forested areas.
