Police crackdown on counterfeit currency racket in Cuttack, one arrested
Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: In a significant operation, police dismantled a counterfeit currency racket in the Jagatpur area of Cuttack district, leading to the arrest of one individual connected to the crime. The accused had intentions to circulate fake currency notes during the upcoming Durga Puja festival.
Authorities revealed that several individuals, masquerading as real estate agents, were enticing people to invest in the counterfeit currency business. The arrested suspect, who identified himself as a builder, had promised assistance to a local resident in purchasing land and had taken an advance payment of Rs 1.6 lakh. However, when the land deal fell through, the victim requested a refund.
In a twist, the accused invited the victim to a hotel, attempting to persuade him to invest in the counterfeit scheme, claiming he could earn Rs 1 crore with an investment of Rs 2.5 lakh. Sensing something amiss, the victim promptly notified the police, resulting in the arrest of Nirmal Dehuri from the Bantala area in Angul. Authorities are now on the lookout for Rahas Nayak, the alleged mastermind behind the operation.
