Odisha engineer arrested for bribe, multiple properties discovered

Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: Jitendra Kumar Padhy, the Executive Engineer of Tel Irrigation Division in Subarnapur, was arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 46,000 from a contractor. Following his arrest, he was remanded to jail custody until October 21, 2024.
The arrest triggered vigilance officials to conduct simultaneous searches at six locations associated with Padhy, uncovering substantial assets. These included Rs. 4.08 lakh in cash, a triple-storeyed 3,300 sq. ft. building in Bhubaneswar, a flat in Puri, two high-value plots in Puri and Bolangir, and 18.67 acres of farmland in Cuttack.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the value of the farmland and an under-construction building, while also verifying Padhy’s bank accounts and other deposits. A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 at the Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station, and Padhy has been produced in court.
