Private bus owners call off strike after talks with Odisha Transport Minister
Bhubaneswar, Oct 7: Private bus owners' associations from western and southern Odisha have called off their planned strike after discussions with Odisha Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena on Monday.
In response to the strike threat, the minister held a meeting with the bus owners' associations in Berhampur to address their concerns. The associations had initially called for a 24-hour token strike across 14 districts in northern and western Odisha to protest the state government’s decision to introduce tier-II buses under the Location Accessible Multi-modal Initiative (LAccMI) scheme.
While the bus owners' associations supported the launch of tier-I LAccMI buses, which connect blocks to panchayats, they opposed tier-II buses operating between blocks and district headquarters, citing potential heavy financial losses for private operators.
