Biju Patnaik Airport to get new terminal as part of major expansion plan

Bhubaneswar, Oct 4: The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar is set to receive a new terminal as part of a major expansion plan aimed at meeting the growing demands of domestic and international travelers over the next decade.

Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, who reviewed the airport's progress on Friday, announced that the necessary approvals for the new terminal would be granted within a month, with construction expected to be completed in two years.

Currently, the airport's Terminal I has a capacity of handling 4 million passengers annually, but it is already serving 5 million. Naidu emphasized the importance of expanding the airport's capacity to 8 million passengers per year to accommodate the rising traffic.

In addition, several minor improvements, including passenger amenities, are being carried out and will be completed within a month. The Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the airport will also be upgraded from CAT I to CAT II within the same timeframe.
