Food poisoning tragedy in Kandhamal: Over 20 hospitalized, nine dead
Bhubaneswar, Oct 2: At least nine people have died due to food poisoning and diarrhea in Kanibaru and Sindhibali villages of Durgapanga panchayat, under Kotgarh block in Kandhamal district, after consuming food at a death ritual feast four days ago. The situation has worsened, forcing around 70-80 villagers to flee their homes, fearing illness.
A three-month pregnant woman from Kanibaru village died last Monday night, two days after her husband's death. Currently, over 20 people are affected, with some receiving treatment at Kotgarh Community Health Center, while critically ill patients have been referred to Baliguda Hospital. However, due to transportation issues, many are being treated at home by local medics.
A medical team led by Dr. George Deepak from Durgapanga CHC has arrived, collecting water, food, and other samples for analysis to determine the source of the outbreak.
