Policemen suspended, home guards dismissed after alleged custodial death in Kandhamal
Bhubaneswar, Oct 2: Kandhamal SP has suspended two policemen and terminated the services of three home guard personnel over their alleged involvement in the mysterious death of ganja smuggler Jyestha Bandaki last month.
The suspended officers are SI Ajit Kumar Behera and Havildar Ramchandra Nayak, while home guard jawans Abhiram Mahanand, Jagabandhu Kanhar, and Ratnakar Nayak were dismissed from service, as confirmed by Kandhamal Additional SP Balabhadra Deep.
The ASP stated, "We have recreated the crime scene and are awaiting the post-mortem report. A scientific team and the RTO have examined the vehicle for evidence."
The incident occurred when a patrolling party from Gochapada police arrested a ganja smuggler from Boudh last month. It is alleged that he was beaten to death while in custody. Authorities are investigating the case further.
