Two cousins drown in Puri’s Narendra pond during death rituals

Bhubaneswar, Oct 1: On Tuesday, Fire Brigade personnel recovered the bodies of two youths who drowned while bathing in Narendra Pond in Puri. The victims have been identified as Rajakiran Satpathy from Kukudakhandi and Nalinikant Tripathy from Ichhapuram, who were cousins.
The tragic incident occurred while they were in Puri to attend the tenth-day death rituals of a relative. As part of the ceremony, they entered the Narendra Pond to take a ritualistic bath. Unfortunately, both began to drown.
Their relatives, witnessing the situation, immediately alerted fire brigade officials. A rescue operation was launched swiftly, and the two were pulled from the water. However, despite the prompt efforts, the victims were rushed to the hospital only to be declared dead by the attending doctors.
The sudden demise of the two cousins has left the family and the community in shock, as they were performing sacred duties when the tragedy struck.
