Vigilance arrests Chief Engineer for disproportionate assets

Bhubaneswar, Sept 21: Vigilance officials have arrested NV Harihara Rao, Chief Engineer at the office of the Chief Construction Engineer, Rural Works Circle in Balasore, for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known income sources. The arrest followed extensive searches on properties linked to Rao.
During the search, Vigilance sleuths uncovered Rs 46.45 lakh in cash from his brother-in-law’s house in Berhampur. Additionally, they found two buildings, a 3-BHK flat, two suspected benami flats in Bhubaneswar and Berhampur, five high-value homestead plots, and deposits and investments worth Rs 3.42 crores. The search also led to the seizure of 510 grams of gold.
Rao failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the assets, leading to his arrest. He is set to be produced in court today. A case has been registered against him, marking a significant move by the Vigilance Cell in combating corruption in the region.
