Odisha DGP orders action against attackers of Army major and fiancée

Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania on Thursday ordered the police to file a case against individuals accused of assaulting Major Gurvansh Singh of the 22 Sikh Regiment and his fiancée Ankita Pradhan in Bhubaneswar on the night of September 14.
The DGP stated firmly, "All offenders will be identified, and strict action will be taken against them."
His statement followed the suspension of five police officers, including the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Bharatpur police station, over allegations of custodial assault and threats of molestation against the Army officer's fiancée.
The couple had visited the police station to report the attack by hooligans but were allegedly assaulted by the police officers present.
Earlier, on September 14, the Bharatpur Police had issued a statement claiming that the Major and his fiancée arrived at the station around 3:00 am to file a complaint. When the on-duty woman sub-inspector asked for a written report, the couple allegedly became aggressive and attacked the officers. The Major was reportedly detained for over 10 hours before being released, while his fiancée was arrested for causing a disturbance and attacking a woman officer.
