Health Minister announces plan for medical colleges in every Odisha district
Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling announced that medical colleges will be established in every district headquarters of Odisha, marking a significant milestone as the BJP government completed 100 days in power.
“Currently, Odisha has 11 medical colleges, with two more set to become operational in Talcher and Kandhamal. In line with the top 21 promises made by the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government, we are committed to setting up medical colleges in all district headquarters within the next five years. A blueprint is being prepared to achieve this,” Mahaling said during a press briefing.
He further explained that this initiative follows a 2014 mandate by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to establish medical colleges in every district across India, under a 60:40 partnership between the Central and state governments. Odisha's medical colleges have been developed following this model.
Additionally, Mahaling addressed the issue of teacher shortages in medical colleges, assuring that all vacant positions will be filled soon to ensure the smooth functioning of these institutions.
