Two workers killed, five critically injured in Jharsuguda factory accident

Bhubaneswar, Sept 17: Two workers lost their lives, and five others were critically injured when a metal plate collapsed on them at the Orissa Metaliks Private Limited (OMPL) factory in Budhipadar, Jharsuguda district, Odisha, on Tuesday.
The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital, while the two deceased, who had been trapped under the fallen metal plate, were rescued but succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The victims were identified as Purnchandra Jena, 34, from Ganjam, and Alek Deo Sahu, 39, from Jharkhand.
The tragic incident occurred around 11:00 am near the blast furnace, where the workers were stationed. Upon learning of the accident, police arrived to calm the workers, who had halted work in protest of the factory's safety standards.
The injured workers remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment in the ICU.
