ASI to inspect Ratna Bhandar on September 18, temple doors to close from 1 PM

Bhubaneswar, Sept 13: The Jagannath Temple in Puri will close to devotees from 1 pm onwards on September 18 as the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) begins a preliminary inspection of the Ratna Bhandar, the temple’s treasure vault. Public darshan will be suspended during this time to facilitate the inspection.
As per the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), the Dwaraphita Niti will be performed at 2 am, followed by Mangala Alati at 3 am. Public access will remain closed from 1 pm onwards.
Earlier, under the state government's approved SOP, all ornaments from both the outer and inner Ratna Bhandar were shifted to a temporary strong room, and empty almirahs and chests were moved. A survey using modern technology was requested before the repair and conservation work begins.
The ASI has been urged to ensure no adverse impact on the temple, and the Chief Administrator has called for prompt completion of the conservation work after thorough inspection.
