Four students drown during Ganesh idol immersion in Subarnarekha canal, two missing
Bhubaneswar, Sept 13: In a tragic incident, four students drowned while immersing a Ganesh idol in the Subarnarekha canal at Laxmiposi, under Bhanjpur police limits in Baripada, Mayurbhanj district, on Friday.
The students, who were staying in a nearby mess, ventured into the canal early in the morning to perform the idol immersion when strong currents swept them away.
Locals, hearing their cries for help, rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, two students drowned. Fire brigade officials managed to rescue two others, while two remain missing. A frantic search operation is underway to locate the missing students. The incident has left the local community in shock as rescue teams continue their efforts. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and further updates are expected as the search progresses.
