Patient dies in tragic accident at Nilagiri Hospital, family alleges negligence

Bhubaneswar, Sept 10: A patient tragically died in an accident on the premises of Nilagiri Sub-Divisional Hospital in Balasore district on Tuesday, allegedly due to negligence by hospital authorities.

The deceased, Karan Singh, from Ambajhar village, had been admitted to the hospital five days prior for treatment. On the day of the incident, he attempted to use the hospital toilet, but finding it unclean, he opted to use a toilet outside the premises, according to sources.

As Singh approached the toilet, his leg became entangled in wires from a broken cable lying on the ground, causing him to fall and hit his head on a drain. He lost consciousness and was immediately rushed back to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead after examination.

Singh’s family blamed the hospital’s poor maintenance, stating that the unclean toilet forced him to seek an alternative, leading to the fatal mishap. They also claimed that the live wire was part of the hospital's electrical system.

Hospital In-Charge Sarojini Pradhan confirmed that an investigation would be conducted, adding that contractors responsible for electrical work had been instructed to remove the wires but had failed to do so.
