Woman allegedly poisoned by in-laws over dowry issues in Mayurbhanj

Bhubaneswar, Sept 4: A woman in Bhandaripal village, under the Kaptipada police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, was allegedly poisoned to death by her mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law on Tuesday over dowry issues. She succumbed to the poisoning on Wednesday while receiving treatment.
The deceased, Sita Naik, was married to Sudarshan Bindhani of Bhandaripal village. According to reports, Sita and Sudarshan had a love marriage nine months ago. Since then, her in-laws are alleged to have subjected her to mental and physical abuse, pressuring her to demand more dowry from her family.
On Tuesday, Sita was reportedly poisoned by her mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law, leading to her death the following morning.
Neighbors alerted Sita's relatives, who transported her to Udla Hospital in critical condition. She died at the hospital on Wednesday morning. Her mother filed a formal complaint at the Kaptipada police station, alleging that her daughter was poisoned to death. Police have initiated an investigation and detained the deceased’s in-laws based on the complaint.
