Four arrested in Cuttack gold merchant robbery, stolen gold recovered

Bhubaneswar, Aug 30: Lalbag police on Friday arrested four individuals in connection with the robbery of a gold merchant in the Ganesh Ghat area of Cuttack. Among the arrested, two were directly involved in the robbery, while the other two were buyers of the stolen gold. The police recovered 60 grams of gold ornaments, Rs 9,100 in cash, and an iron rod from the suspects, according to sources.
The robbers were identified as Uday Samal and Asit Nayak, while the receivers were Basudev Maharana and Lakhmidhar Maharana. Three of the accused have prior criminal records and will be presented in court today.
The robbery occurred on August 20 when gold merchant Dip Narayan Majhi was returning home after polishing gold ornaments at Balu Bazaar. The assailants attacked Majhi with an iron rod, injuring his legs, and fled with his bag of ornaments. The police seized the getaway bike, mobile phones, and gold ornaments.
