Massive raid uncovers widespread illicit liquor brewing in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, Aug 26: Odisha Excise personnel, in collaboration with the police, intensified their crackdown on the illicit liquor trade by raiding a country liquor manufacturing unit at Saliashai, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, on Monday. During the operation, a significant quantity of illegal liquor was seized and destroyed.
Reports indicate that several hundred litres of country liquor, along with materials like poach and paddy used for brewing the alcohol, were confiscated. The authorities also dismantled the entire operation site.
In a surprising discovery, the raiding team found that almost every house in the locality was involved in brewing and selling country liquor.
Since the crackdown began last week, the Excise department has seized over 5,500 litres of country liquor and dismantled more than 100 illegal distilleries across various regions of the state. Between August 20 and August 26, the department conducted raids at multiple illicit liquor production units, registering 1,869 cases and arresting 1,154 individuals.
