Olympic hero Amit Rohidas receives heroic welcome in his ancestral village

Bhubaneswar, Aug 22: Amidst thunderous applause and vibrant celebrations, Olympic bronze medalist Amit Rohidas made a triumphant return to his ancestral village of Saunamara in Sundargarh district. The entire village erupted in joy, celebrating their hometown hero's return, marking a momentous occasion that will be cherished for years to come.
Amit, who was born in this village, returned after achieving remarkable success at the Olympics. He was initially stopped midway and then escorted home, where his mother welcomed him with open arms. Later, the villagers will formally felicitate him.
Speaking to the media, Rohidas expressed his excitement, saying, "I eagerly awaited my return to the village, and now I’m finally here. Yesterday, the Odisha government made elaborate arrangements to honor the entire hockey team. I’m grateful to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for felicitating me with a Rs 4 crore cash prize. My family and villagers gave me a heartwarming welcome, and I thank them all. We didn’t return empty-handed; we came back with a bronze medal, earned through the team's relentless effort."
Earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had felicitated the Indian men’s hockey team at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar for their bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics.
