Protest against Bangladesh atrocities brings Malkangiri to standstill

Bhubaneswar, Aug 16: A 12-hour bandh called by the Hindu Jagarana Macha in Malkangiri district today significantly disrupted traffic, businesses, and educational institutions. The bandh, which began at 6 am, was organized to protest against atrocities committed against Hindus in Bangladesh and to demand the eviction of Bangladeshi nationals residing in the district without proper identification documents.
As a result, shops, markets, schools, and colleges remained closed, and vehicles stayed off the roads, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters. Normal life in Malkangiri was severely affected, with many residents facing difficulties due to the closure of essential services and transportation.
The bandh is set to continue until 6 pm, with the administration taking necessary precautions to maintain law and order. Despite the disruptions, ambulance and emergency services remained unaffected.
"We are outraged by the recent desecration of idols of Lord Jagannath and His sibling deities in Bangladesh, which were set ablaze just a few days ago. This heinous act is unacceptable and demands action," said a protester.
