Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: A woman jumped into the Chitrotpala River from Nemala Bridge today with her minor son near Salipur in Cuttack. Sadly, the child's body has been recovered by locals, but the mother's body is still missing.

The deceased child was estimated to be between 5 and 6 years old.

Reports indicate that the family resides in the Nemala area. The fire department is actively working to recover the mother's body. As of the latest update, the rescue operation for the woman is ongoing.

The reason behind the mother and son jumping into the river remains unclear. However, relatives of the deceased woman mentioned that she was stressed due to a group loan, which might have driven her to this extreme action.

The woman's daughter provided further details, stating, "This morning, my younger brother and I went to the market with our mother. My brother had a blood test there. On our way back, my mother first pushed my brother into the river before jumping in herself."

Locals quickly rescued the boy and rushed him to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Meanwhile, Salipur police have begun an investigation into the incident.
