Breakup sparks arson incident in Bhadrak district

Bhubaneswar, Aug 10: A dramatic incident of revenge unfolded in Rukunadeipur village under Basudevpur police station limits in Bhadrak district, where a jilted lover, identified as a young woman, set her ex-boyfriend’s house on fire after their relationship turned sour.
Sources report that Prabhath Mahapatra, a resident of Rukunadeipur village, had been in a long-distance relationship with a young woman from Bhadrak for a long time. However, a rift developed in their relationship, leading to a breakdown. Currently, Prabhath is working outside the state, while the young woman remains in her village.
The young woman allegedly arrived at Prabhath’s house with a friend on a scooter yesterday evening. She reportedly hurled abuses at Prabhath’s family members and attacked his mother, Jyosnarani, and sister.
She then allegedly poured petrol on the house and set it ablaze. However, timely intervention by villagers prevented major damage. The villagers apprehended the two women and informed the Basudevpur police, who took them into custody and are investigating the matter.
