Heavy rains forecasted for Odisha due to low-pressure area in Bengal

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Friday that a low-pressure area has formed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand, influenced by the cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and nearby Bangladesh.

According to IMD sources, this low-pressure area is currently situated over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand, with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.

The IMD forecasts that the low-pressure system will move west-northwestwards and become more marked in the next 24 hours. It is expected to intensify, bringing increased rainfall and thunderstorms to various parts of the state. The regional weather office will closely monitor the system's exact trajectory and intensity.

Due to the impact of this low-pressure area, Odisha is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with some regions potentially facing extreme rainfall on August 2 and 3. This may lead to flash flooding and disruptions to daily life. Residents in affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated on local weather advisories and warnings.
